SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake will look to stay unbeaten in 2014 on Saturday, when it will host Vancouver Whitecaps FC at 7:30 p.m. at Rio Tinto Stadium. Saturday’s match will be broadcast live on CW30, ESPN 700 and 102.3 La Gran D FM.
Real Salt Lake won its last match, improving to 3-0-4 on the season with a 1-0 win over Portland Timbers in front of a sold-out Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday. The win kept RSL as the only unbeaten team in MLS. The victory over the Timbers also marked RSL GK Nick Rimando’s 111th career regular season shutout, putting the veteran goalkeeper one shutout away from tying the all-time record held by retired goalkeeper Kevin Hartman with 112.
Saturday’s match against Vancouver will potentially be U.S. internationals MF Kyle Beckerman and GK Nick Rimando and Costa Rican international FW Alvaro Saborio’s last home game before the trio will likely depart to their respective World Cup preparation camps in the middle of May. After Saturday, RSL goes on the road for two matches, not returning to Utah until May 17 when the Claret-and-Cobalt host Colorado Rapids.
Saturday’s matchup between RSL and Vancouver will be the Claret-and-Cobalt’s fourth home game of the 2014 season. RSL is currently undefeated at home in 2014, posting a 2-0-1 record in Utah. The Claret-and-Cobalt drew LA Galaxy 1-1 in its home opener on March 22, defeated Toronto FC 3-0 on March 29 and shutout Portland Timbers 1-0 on April 19.

The last time the two sides met, RSL claimed its first win on Vancouver soil, a 1-0 win on Sept. 28, 2013. Vancouver faced a makeshift lineup that night, with RSL FW Devon Sandoval scoring the lone goal and backup GK Jeff Attinella earning his first MLS career shutout. The two previous meetings resulted in an RSL 2-0 win at Rio Tinto Stadium on May 4, 2013 and a 1-1 draw at BC Place on April 13, 2013.
Vancouver enters this weekend’s match with a 2-2-3 record to start the season. The Canadian side currently sits in fifth-place in the Western Conference with a total of nine points.
