Preview: RSL at Colorado Rapids

Ned Grabavoy v. Colorado Rapids - 03.16.13

SANDY, Utah – Real Salt Lake and the Colorado Rapids will play the second leg of the 2013 Rocky Mountain Cup Presented by Mark Miller Subaru on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. MT at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

Saturday’s match will be broadcast nationally on NBC Sports Network and locally on the radio on ESPN700 AM and 102.3 La Gran D/1600 AM. ESPN700 will begin its pregame coverage at 4:30 p.m. MT and will air an hour-long postgame show immediately following the match.

The Real Salt Lake Reserves will take on the Colorado Reserves in MLS Reserve League action at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park immediately following the first-team match.

Real Salt Lake and the Rapids have already met once this year, playing to a 1-1 draw in the 2013 Rio Tinto Stadium home opener on March 16. RSL has won six straight Rocky Mountain Cups and would put itself in control for the 2013 crown with a win on Saturday.

The Claret-and-Cobalt won its last match, getting goals from FW Robbie Findley and MF Luis Gil to beat Seattle Sounders FC 2-1 at Rio Tinto Stadium on March 30.

Unfortunately, Findley strained his left adductor while scoring against Seattle and will miss Saturday’s match at Colorado due to the injury. MF Cole Grossman is also out for Saturday’s match due to a concussion. RSL FW Alvaro Saborio (R knee swelling), FW Joao Plata (R hamstring strain), MF Javier Morales (R knee menisectomy), DF Carlos Salcedo (concussion), MF Khari Stephenson (L knee sprain), MF David Viana (R quad strain) and DF Chris Wingert (R metatarsal fracture) are all questionable for the match.

The Rapids are 0-3-2 on the season, putting them in eighth place in the Western Conference. Colorado tied its last match, giving up two second-half goals to lose a 2-0 lead and tie Portland 2-2 at home last weekend.

The Claret-and-Cobalt will hit the road again next week, taking on Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BC Place on April 13.
