Preview: Real Salt Lake vs FC Dallas

SANDY, Utah (Friday, September 23, 2016) – Real Salt Lake concludes its August/September homestand this Saturday by welcoming league-leading FC Dallas to Rio Tinto Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. MT kickoff. The game will be televised via KMYU with David James and Brian Dunseth on the call, and can also heard via RSL outlets ESPN700 AM (English, Bill Riley, Jay Nolly, Spencer Warne & Jeremy Horton) & 102.3 FM / 1600 AM (Spanish, Fernando Hortal & Nelson Moran). Pre-game coverage airs live locally on ESPN700 AM at 6:30 p.m. MT.

Saturday’s match against Dallas is the third and final reg. season meeting between the clubs this season, as the Texas side won 2-0 in the DFW MetroPlex back on June 25, while RSL emerged with a 1-0 win on August 20 courtesy a late Jamison Olave goal. All-time, RSL owns a 10-5-4 mark in regular-season and playoff action at home against Dallas, which was the last team to give RSL back-to-back home losses, winning 1-0 last October after RSL dropped an 0-1 decision to Portland.

Last Saturday’s 0-1 loss to Houston – the club’s sixth on Utah soil in the last 49 MLS contests – dropped RSL from unbeaten status at home, Head Coach Jeff Cassar’s club now 8-1-6 at Rio Tinto Stadium this season. RSL has proven resilient in bouncing back from its previous five losses at home from 2014-present, posting a 3-1-1 mark in its following five contests at Rio Tinto Stadium.

Saturday’s match against FC Dallas and the reg. season home finale on Sunday, October 16 are both critical Western Conference playoff seeding, as well as next week’s trip to San Jose and the Sunday, October 23 “Decision Day” at Seattle.  Despite a recent glut of home draws, since the beginning of 2008 RSL now boasts a 106-23-48 mark in its last 177 home games (all comps) in that span on Utah soil, during which it has outscored opponents by 176 goals (308-132), with an 85-18-41 reg. season mark (251/107), an 8-1-2 CCL record (21/7), a 5-2-2 playoff performance (11/4), with an 8-2-2 Open Cup mark (24/13).
