SANDY, Utah (Friday, May 5, 2017) – Real Salt Lake (2-5-2, 8th West) returns home to Rio Tinto Stadium this weekend to face West rival FC Dallas (4-0-3, t-2nd West) Saturday night. Fans are encouraged to arrive early prior to the game’s 7:30 p.m. MT kickoff, in order to witness a special pre-game ceremony to honor former RSL and current Dallas midfielder Javier Morales, in his first visit to Utah since departing the club last November.
Morales, who tallied 49 goals and added 81 assists in his 10 seasons with RSL from 2007-16, has one goal for Dallas in his 240 minutes played thus far in 2017. The Argentine “maestro” joins four current RSL players – Captain Kyle Beckerman, GK Nick Rimando, DF Chris Wingert and DF Tony Beltran – to have called RSL home for 10 or more seasons. The pre-game ceremony will be held at midfield at approximately 7:15 p.m. MT.
RSL and Dallas split the three meetings between the teams a year ago, RSL falling at Dallas, 0-2, in the first contest last June. RSL rebounded with a pair of unbeaten home games to improve to 1-1-1 against Oscar Pareja’s team, including a 1-0 home win last August, when a Jamison Olave header combined with a Nick Rimando clean sheet for the full three points. Weeks later, RSL and Dallas drew 0-0 in the third and final meeting of 2016, with yet another Nick Rimando shutout providing a point.
