SANDY, Utah (Friday, May 15, 2015) – Real Salt Lake continues a run of four road games out of the next five with a weekend trip to Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the visitors in a Saturday afternoon matinee match against the Impact at Stade Saputo in a battle between the only two Major League Soccer sides to have advanced to the CONCACAF Champions League Finals. Local TV coverage kicks off on KMYU (2.2 air / 12 satellite / 22+643 Comcast) at 1:30 p.m. MT, with the game also carried on ESPN700 (1:00 p.m. MT pre-game) and La Gran D 102.3 FM / 1600 AM.
Real Salt Lake (3-2-5, 14 points, West 4) won 2-1 last Saturday on the road against the Chicago Fire, snapping a five-game winless streak, goals by FW Alvaro Saborio and MF Luke Mulholland, each of whom tallied their second goals on the season, both coming on assists from the versatile Jordan Allen, who will soon depart for the FIFA Youth World Championship in New Zealand as part of the U.S. Under-20 National Team.
A late penalty conceded to Chicago broke a shutout streak of 358 minutes on the road for GK Nick Rimando, who collected career win #100 in a Claret/Cobalt uniform. Earlier in the week, Rimando’s denial of LA MF Juninho’s offering was the SEVENTH for the #WalloftheWasatch in his last 10 attempts faced, and his eighth save of the last 14 over the last four seasons (no other MLS GK has more than four saves in that span). All-time, Rimando opponents have failed on 24 of 67 attempts in his 15-year career, including 15 of 37 tries since his move to RSL in 2007.

All-Time RSL History v. Montreal Impact
Saturday marks just the fourth all-time meeting between Real Salt Lake and the Impact, who fell in a late April final series to Club America in the 2014-15 edition of CONCACAF Champions League, echoing RSL’s 2011 loss to Monterrey. In RSL’s lone previous visit to Quebec, the club dropped a 3-2 decision in May, 2013, as Marco Di Vaio and Mateo Ferrari each scored late after a 77’ Kyle Beckerman goal gave RSL the late road lead.
RSL has won both of Montreal’s visits to Utah, a 1-0 victory in 2012 (Paulo Junior with the game-winning penalty) and a 3-1 win last season (Mulholland goal supplemented by an Olmes Garcia brace off the bench).
Busy May Continues This Week; Open Cup / CCL Paths Determined
RSL is currently 2-1-2 away from home – allowing all 4 road goals at NE on 4/25, but securing three road shutouts already (club only had 5 all of last season). In June and July, RSL will have six of its eight MLS matches at home.
After Saturday, RSL plays 2 of its 3 remaining May matches away from home, with the Jason Kreis/NYCFC homecoming next Saturday prior to another two-game week at LA on May 27 and at Vancouver on May 30.
Next week, RSL welcomes back to the Wasatch 11 former RSL coaches/staff and players in the much-anticipated visit on Saturday, May 23, from former captain/head coach Jason Kreis and expansion NYCFC, the new home for such RSL luminaries as Ned Grabavoy, Chris Wingert, Mehdi Ballouchy, Josh Saunders, Kwame Watson-Siriboe and Sebastian Velazquez.
On June 1, RSL will receive from CONCACAF the group assignments from the draw for the 2015/16 Champions League tourney, with two home games and two away scheduled during six possible matchdates in August/September/October. Late this month, RSL and the other U.S.-based MLS sides should receive an idea on dates/times/opponents and sites for the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament, which sees the Round of 32 kickoff in mid-June for the Major League Soccer teams.
