For Real Salt Lake’s 2019 home opener, fans had the opportunity to experience something a bit different on the east lawn of Rio Tinto Stadium with the new and improved Plaza.
The Plaza – formerly named Carnival Real – is a gathering place for all RSL fans to partake in activities, games and listen to live music for free prior to a match. At the club’s home opener, fans also had the opportunity to meet Utah Royals FC players and be the first to see URFC’s new secondary kits in person.
“We know the concourse can get packed at halftime and we know our fans want more variety in food options,” RSL VP of Marketing Bridget Farfel explained. “Opening The Plaza at halftime and working with local food trucks will help alleviate the lines while also giving our fans more options and a better overall experience on game day. The last thing we want is for someone to have to choose between grabbing food at halftime and being in their seat for second half kick and with The Plaza being better than ever, fans will be able to do both.”
Food trucks lined The Plaza, providing fans various craft food options while they got set to cheer on RSL as they began their 15th season in the top flight of American soccer and with several beverage options available for purchase, including cold beer, there is never a shortage of opportunity for fans to ready themselves for a match.
New in 2019, The Plaza is now open at halftime of each Real Salt Lake and Utah Royals FC home match to help create a better fan experience at the stadium and help eliminate the pesky lines at the vendor’s inside of the stadium’s concourse and re-enter the stadium with food and beverage in tow. Additionally, fans can enter The Plaza for food and beverages at any point during the match, except for the first 15 minutes after kickoff, providing one of the most elite pregame atmospheres in all of Major League Soccer.
The Plaza will open its gates every RSL matchday two hours prior to kickoff and during halftime. The Plaza will continue to feature pre-game music from DJs as well as live bands, providing an atmosphere for fan activities including: a mini pitch, mini foot golf course, inflatables, playground, and a creative corner.
