HERRIMAN, Utah (Wednesday, April 20, 2022) – Real Salt Lake Homegrown standout Jaziel Orozco has been named to the U.S. U-20 Youth National Team for week-long training camp in Carson, California from April 22 through May 1. Orozco will join the camp on Sunday, April 24 following Real Salt Lake’s match against Portland Timbers in Portland on Saturday, April 23 at 8:00 p.m. MT.
Defender Orozco, 17, will be one of the youngest on the squad. The defender previously made his professional debut with Real Monarchs in 2021. Since then, Orozco has gone on to make his Real Salt Lake and Major League Soccer debut on March 26, 2022 against Sporting Kansas City and has since started in three-consecutive matches for the Claret-and-Cobalt.
Orozco signed as a Homegrown Player for Real Salt Lake prior to the start of this season and has played in four of the team’s eight regular season matches. He is the youngest to appear for Real Salt Lake this year and the 12th youngest to appear in MLS in 2022. As a dual national, Orozco holds citizenship with both Mexico and the United States, hence his previous call up to the U-20 Mexico Youth National Team. He can continue to represent both sides until he reaches the senior international level.
Real Salt Lake begins its quest to lift the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup trophy tonight, April 20, against Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC and will return to regular season action on Saturday, April 23 against Portland Timbers at Providence Park with kickoff set for 8:00 p.m. MT. The team will return to Rio Tinto Stadium to host LA Galaxy on Saturday, April 30 at 1:30 p.m. MT.
