SANDY, UT (Thursday, January 5, 2017) – Real Salt Lake GK Nick Rimando is among 32 Major League Soccer players called in by U.S. National Team Head Coach Bruce Arena for January camp, which opens January 10 in Carson, California. The U.S. will play a pair of friendlies during the camp against Serbia on January 29 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego (2 p.m. MT; ESPN 2) and against Jamaica on February 3 at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Tennessee (5 p.m. MT; FS1).
Rimando, 37, is Major League Soccer’s all-time leader in games played (424), games started (424), minutes played (38,313), wins (183) and shutouts (129). In 2016, his tenth season with Real Salt Lake, he posted 30 starts – his highest total since 2012 – earning a 11-9-10 record with six shutouts and a 1.33 goals against average.
The 17-year MLS veteran has 21 career caps for the U.S. and has four shutouts on the international stage. He did not make an appearance for the U.S. National Team in 2016.
This will be the first training camp coached by Arena since he took over in November of last year, and comes just two months before Final Round Qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup resumes. The entire 32-player roster comes from MLS, representing 15 different clubs. Since the camp does not fall during a recognized FIFA international window for the release of players, only those who are not in season are available to be selected.
