HERRIMAN, Utah (Friday, April 12, 2019) – Real Monarchs SLC are set for its first-ever trip to Isotopes Park to face New Mexico United on Saturday. Kick off from Albuquerque is slated for 7:30p MT and can be seen live on ESPN+.
Real Monarchs SLC will look to generate its first win streak of the season having topped Reno 1868 FC 3-1 last Saturday. The Monarchs saw a 3rd minute penalty kick save by GK David Ochoa and a strike from MF Maikel Chang just three minutes later kick-start the victory at Zions Bank Stadium. The Monarchs also saw goals from RSL man Joao Plata and MF Jack Blake in the win.
New Mexico United and Real Monarchs SLC have never done battle with New Mexico still it’s the infancy of its existence after entering the USL Championship fray at the beginning of the 2019 season. New Mexico boasts prominent goal scorers such as Santi Moar and former RSL man and Albuquerque native Devon Sandoval.

For 2019, the Monarchs return a familiar core of players from the 2018 season as DFs James Moberg, Kalen Ryden, Konrad Plewa, Andrew Brody & Stanley Okumu lead the backline of one of the league’s most elite sides. MFs Maikel Chang, Jack Blake, Josh Heard and Masta Kacher all return carrying with them a slew of experience into their second season in the midfield with the Monarchs.
New faces in the squad include players with ample USL Championship experience like DF Noah Powder, FW Douglas Martinez. Panamanian international MF Ricardo Avila highlights the season’s newcomers as the World Cup veteran is joined by FW Lionel Etoundi, MF Damian German and Honduran youth international FW Luis Palma. RSL Academy productsJordan Pena and Steve Jasso also exemplify the growth pipeline between the Academy and the professional ranks for the 2019 season. GKs Todd Morton and Evan Finney round out the list of new faces set to contribute to the Monarchs during the 2019 season.
