HERRIMAN, Utah (Thursday, April 28, 2022) – Real Salt Lake Homegrown midfielder Jude Wellings has been named to the U.S. U-17 Youth National Team for the upcoming UEFA Development Tournament in Castelo Branco, Portugal from May 1-11.
Wellings, 15, signed with Real Salt Lake as a Homegrown Player prior to the start of the 2022 season. This year he has appeared in three matches for Real Monarchs at the MLS NEXT Pro level, two of them starts. Additionally, he captained the RSL Academy’s U-17 squad during the 2022 Generation Adidas Tournament in Frisco, Texas where he recorded two assists.
This is the first international call up of any kind for Wellings who joined the RSL Academy ahead of the 2020 academy season. However, he has earned previous call ups to training camps and domestic friendlies within the United States Youth National Team system.
With the RSL Academy, Wellings led the program to its first-ever MLS NEXT Cup Championship in the summer of 2021. Additionally, this past December he was named the Player of the Tournament at the MLS NEXT Fest, beating out more than 300 other athletes. Wellings made his professional debut this past season with the Monarchs at the ULS Championship level, coming on as a substitute against Rio Grande Valley on October 27, 2021.
Real Salt Lake is set to host LA Galaxy at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday, April 30 at 1:30 p.m. MT. Real Monarchs are set to host St. Louis City 2 at Zions Bank Stadium on Friday, April 29 at 7:00 p.m. MT.
