The U.S. National Team has earned four points from its first two matches in the Group Stage of qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia with a win over St. Vincent and the Grenadines in St. Louis and a draw with Trinidad and Tobago on the road on Tuesday.
Real Salt Lake midfielder Kyle Beckerman traveled with the U.S. for both matches, but did not make an appearance in the first two qualifiers of the new cycle as the U.S. got goals from five different players in a 6-1 win over St. Vincent and the Grenadines, then managed just six shots in a scoreless draw against Trinidad and Tobago. The U.S. is even with Trinidad with four points through the first two games in Group C, but holds an advantage on goal differential.
Meanwhile, RSL defender Demar Phillips played 90 minutes on Tuesday in Jamaica’s 1-0 win over Haiti. The left back did not play in a 2-0 loss to Panama on Friday. Jamaica sits third in Group B behind Costa Rica and Panama.
And finally, RSL defender Elias Vasquez started on Friday in Guatemala’s 2-1 loss to Trinidad and Tobago, but left the match in the 54th minute with a knee injury. Guatemala is third in Group C with three points.
