SANDY, Utah - Real Salt Lake midfielder Luis Gil and the United States Under-20 national team will begin FIFA U-20 World Cup play at 11:45 a.m. MT on Friday when they take on Spain in Istanbul, Turkey. Friday's game will be broadcast live on ESPN2, WatchESPN and Univision Deportes.
Gil, 19, is likely to play in Friday's match after being removed from a tune-up contest against Portugal last Friday following a head-to-head collision with a Portuguese defender. He has two goals and one assist in 14 MLS appearances for RSL this season.
The U.S. is paired with Spain, France and Ghana in the U-20 World Cup's "Group of Death." The Red, White and Blue will take on France at 9 a.m. MT on June 24 before closing the Group Stage against Ghana at 11 a.m. MT on June 27. The top two teams from each of the tournament's six groups and the top four third-place teams in the tournament will advance to the Knockout Stage.
