Colombian youth international Brayan Vera joins Real Salt Lake from América De Calí on a three-year deal with options to extend for the 2026 and 2027 seasons. He’ll look to link up with RSL’s formidable back line that includes Homegrown Justen Glad, Marcelo Silva, Bryan Oviedo and Andrew Brody.
Five Fast Facts about new RSL signing Brayan Vera:
- Vera was born in San Luis, Colombia on January 15, 1999. To begin his career, he moved three hours East to Itagüí, joining Leones FC’s youth setup. At the age of 19, Vera made his debut for Leones first team, starting one match in the Colombian first division. Internationally, Vera would make 13 appearances for the Colombian U20 Youth National Team.
- While with the Colombian U20’s he competed in the 2019 U-20 World Cup. Colombia would finish second in their group to advance to the knockout rounds where they’d then defeat New Zealand before falling to eventual champions Ukraine. Vera’s teammates on the U20 team include Leeds United’s Luis Sinisterra and former Watford and current Columbus Crew Designated Player, Cucho Hernández.
- Back on the Club side, Vera made the journey across the Atlantic to Southern Italy, landing at Serie A side, Lecce. Vera played eight matches in his first Serie A season, facing off against the likes of Italian giants A.C. Milan and Juventus.
- The following season, Vera was loaned out to Serie B Club, Cosenza Calcio, in search of more playing time. The Colombian would go on to play in 22 matches for Cosenza, starting in 15 and chipping in with an assist. He would go out on loan again the next season, this time in Colombia.
- Back in his home country, Vera refound his form and excelled for América de Calí. América is historically known as one of the strongest clubs in the country, having won 15 league titles in their 95 year history. Back in the Colombian first division, Vera played in 28 games, starting 23 of them. América de Cali then decided to make his stay permanent, completing a transfer for the talented defender.
