Man of the Match: Midfielder Bode Davis helped the Monarchs on both sides of the ball in an effort to keep the Real Monarchs chances alive in a hard-fought match. On the offensive end he created three chances and one shot on goal, while also adding 16 duels for the Monarchs in the midfield trenches. Covering a lot of ground defensively throughout the night, the 19-year-old recorded five tackles, two interceptions and one clearance.
Telling Stat: With his professional debut in between the pipes, RSL Academy goalkeeper Blake Kelly became the youngest-ever goalkeeper to appear in a USL Championship match. At just 15 years, seven months and seven days old, Kelly officially debuted as the third-youngest player this season across the league and youngest all-time for Real Monarchs.
What You Missed: RSL Academy forward Seth Powder made his professional debut for the Real Monarchs as a halftime substitute in the match. The 16-year-old is the younger brother of Real Salt Lake and Trinidad and Tobago defender Noah Powder, becoming the first set of brothers to play for the club.
So What: Tonight the Monarchs faced its first of three USL Championship Eastern Conference opponents. Still to come are Atlantic Division sides Hartford Athletic and New York Red Bulls II. Following the postponement of last weekend’s originally scheduled match, the Real Monarchs will travel to Toyota Field to take on San Antonio FC on Wednesday, September 1 at 6:30 p.m. MT for the third and final meeting of the season between the two sides.
