Real Salt Lake 3 vs. Colorado Rapids 0
July 24, 2021; Rio Tinto Stadium
Real Salt Lake (5-4-5, 20 points); Colorado Rapids (7-4-3, 24 points)
Man of the Match: In his first start for Real Salt Lake, Ashtone Morgan provided a spark on the left side of the pitch, while also holding down the side defensively. He led the team in blocks, while also contributing an interception and a block on one end and opened up space by charging up the flank to create offensive opportunities.
Telling Stat: Making his 100th appearance for Real Salt Lake, Damir Kreilach led the team in key passes and recorded his fifth assist of the season. He almost found his eighth goal of the season when his head connected with a pass from Maikel Chang, but it went just wide. Kreilach is now just the third player on the roster to reach the centennial mark with Real Salt Lake.
What You Missed: Bobby Wood scored his first goal in Major League Soccer and with Real Salt Lake, making a dashing run from just shy of the midfield line to beat out several Colorado defenders and planting it firmly into the back of the net. His substitute in the second half, Rubio Rubin, scored his fifth goal of the season, good for the second-most on the team.
What’s Next: Real Salt Lake will return to some form of normalcy after finishing a slate of three games in eight days. Next week the team will head south to Texas where it will face Houston Dynamo FC on Saturday, July 31 at 6:30 p.m. MT. The match will mark the start of another series of three games in eight days, all on the road.
