SANDY, Utah (Wednesday, November 9, 2011) – With the 2011 MLS season now behind them, four members of the Real Salt Lake midfield – Jean Alexandre (Haitian Men’s National Team), Kyle Beckerman (U.S. Men’s National Team), Luis Gil (U.S. Under-23 Men’s National Team) and Will Johnson (Canadian Men’s National Team) – have joined up with their respective national teams in preparation for FIFA’s upcoming international calendar window across the next week.

Kyle Beckerman Re-Joins USMNT
Claret-and-Cobalt captain Kyle Beckerman will once again join U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann’s side ahead of a pair of international friendlies on European soil against France and Slovenia. Beckerman (16 caps/1 goal) has enjoyed a resurgence with the USMNT as of late, making four appearances – including three starts – in the five games since Klinsmann took over the reins of the USMNT program back in late July. The USA will start its latest European adventure Friday with the high-profile clash against “les Bleus” at the Stade de France before heading to Ljubljana for next Tuesday’s 2010 World Cup rematch with Slovenia.

Luis Gil Gets Late U.S. U-23 Call-up
While Beckerman has become a stalwart for the U.S. senior team, his RSL teammate Luis Gil will get his first look with the U.S. Under-23 side after be called in as a late addition squad that will be taking part in a camp in Duisburg, Germany through Nov. 16. Newly-appointed U.S. U-23 head coach Caleb Porter kicked off the camp on Monday with a total of 37 players, 14 of which currently play in MLS. The 17-year old Gil has turned many heads during his time in the U.S. youth system while performing with both the U-17 and U-20 squads, including a standout performance with the former at the 2009 U-17 World Cup.
The U.S. U-23 camp, the first in preparation for the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament in March 2012, is taking place at the same time the full Men’s National Team will be gathered in France and Slovenia. Klinsmann worked with Porter and the rest of the coaching staff in order to structure the program in a similar fashion to the full team, including the approach to style of play, training sessions, and fitness testing.

Will Johnson Has Canadians on Cusp of Advancing
Will Johnson (22 caps/1 goal) will look to continue to help Canada march towards advancement during CONCACAF region qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil over the next week. Canada currently sits in the driver’s seat of Group D, needing only one point from its final two contests – both of which are against second-place St. Kitts and Nevis – to claim first in their group and advance to Round 3 of World Cup Qualifying. The Caribbean/Canadian back-and-forth for the “Canucks” will begin Friday with the away fixture in Basseterre, followed three days later with the home leg at BMO Field in Toronto next Tuesday, Nov. 15. Jean Alexandre, Haiti Face Tough Task against Antigua & Barbuda
Jean Alexandre (9 caps/2 goals) will also attempt to help steer his country through CONCACAF region qualifying for the 2014 World Cup, but the task for he and his Haitian National Team mates will be a tough one as they must overcome a two-point deficit behind Group F pace-setter Antigua & Barbuda. While Alexandre and “les Grenadiers” will have control of their own fate thanks to a home-and-home series against the group leader, they must make sure to secure at least a point from Friday’s opener in St. John’s, Antigua in order to keep the dream alive. Should Haiti win or tie that fixture, next Tuesday’s Group F finale in Port-au-Prince will provide plenty of dramatics with a spot in the next phase of CONCACAF qualifying on the line.
