Real Salt Lake midfielders **Diego Luna** and **Jefferson Savarino** have been named to the MLSsoccer.com’s Major League Soccer Team of the Matchday for Matchday 26 following the team’s 3-1 home win over New York Red Bulls. Both were named to the starting XI, a first for Luna while its the 12th time for Savarino.
Luna and Savarino lit up the wings at America First Field in front of a sellout crowd, with both midfielders getting on the scoresheet and influencing the game for large stretches of play.
Luna's two goal performance also has him up for MLS Player of the Week, and fans can vote for him below:
Luna and Savarino brought America First Field to its feet within minutes after the kickoff, helping to create a boisterous stadium atmosphere that'd last the full 90'. Two minutes in, a Savarino cross found the feet of Luna who smashed the ball past the NYRB goalkeeper and gave RSL the early lead. After halftime, it was Luna and forward **Danny Musovski** who connected with some intricate and delicate one touch passing in the Red Bull penalty box which led to a beautiful Luna chip to double the Claret-and-Cobalt's advantage. New York would pull one back in the 80 minute, but one minute later, Savarino restored RSL's two goal cushion with a beautiful curling shot right in front of the RSL supporters section, ensuring RSL would maintain it's 10 game unbeaten streak in all competitions.
Postgame, in front of the RSL supporters section that often hoists tifos claiming the team is the star, youngster Diego Luna planted the flag for the first time. A sparkling team performance capped off by a moment of recognition for the youngest RSL player ever to score two goals in a game. As always under the shadows of the Wasatch Front, the team remains the star, but Luna's recent performances have the Club's ambitions shooting toward the moon.
