After being forced to miss the majority of the season due to a back injury, Real Salt Lake Captain Damir Kreilach turned his focus off the pitch to the Wasatch Front community.
At the start of the season, the Croatian Captain, along with the Club announced that section six and seven would be re-named “Kreilach’s Corner” as Kreilach purchased 100 tickets for every home game this season to hand out to underserved members of the community.
This motivated team ownership and corporate sponsors to purchase 335 more tickets to give to local community outreach groups that help less-privileged individuals and families throughout the Beehive State. The 435 tickets were constantly filled in the South end of America First Field, helping Real Salt Lake hit a Club-record 17 consecutive sellouts during the 2022 season.
This season Kreilach was seen in and around the Wasatch Front, lending a hand wherever he could. Along with Kreilach’s Corner, the Captain also volunteered at Utah Food Bank, Special Olympics, Midvale Elementary School and Granite Education Foundation.
For his efforts in the community, Kreilach was nominated for Major League Soccer’s 2022 Humanitarian of the Year.
It’s no surprise then that Real Salt Lake Captain has been named as the 2022 Jordan Guernsey Humanitarian of the Year.
As Krielach turns his attention back to the pitch to get ready for next season, his character continues to show that no matter what, his attention will still always also be on the community.
