HERRIMAN, Utah (Thursday, April 21, 2022) – Real Salt Lake Academy midfielder Carlos Castrejon has been named by Head Coach Albert Rodriguez to the U-16 Mexico National Team for the upcoming Gradisca Tournament in Italy from April 25 through May 1. Mexico will face the Czech Republic and Romania as part of Group C during the group stage.
Castrejon is just one of two products from a Major League Soccer club affiliate on the 20-man roster, the other being Tino Arteaga from LAFC.
This is the second call up to the U-16 Mexico National Team for Castrejon, who has previously represented Mexico at various youth levels. As a dual national, Castrejon has also been selected for previous U-15 United States Youth National Team camps, and he can continue to represent both countries until he reaches the senior International level.
Castrejon recently competed with the RSL Academy at the prestigious Generation Adidas Cup in Frisco, Texas, one of the largest youth soccer tournaments in the world. He helped lead his team to the Quarterfinals, where they ultimately fell to Spain’s Valencia CF.
The RSL Academy returns to regular season action this Saturday, April 23 when they host LA Galaxy at Zions Bank Stadium.
