Real Salt Lake winger Anderson Julio has been selected as the Major League Soccer Goal of the Week for week 28 of the regular season with an overwhelming 77 percent of the vote.
Julio is recognized for his wonder-strike golazo in the final minutes of stoppage time against LA Galaxy that secured the last-second victory at Rio Tinto Stadium.
Midfielder Damir Kreilach chipped a long ball towards Julio, who was flanked on both sides by Galaxy defenders. The ball looked to be falling in front of the oncoming winger, but Julio one-touched it over his head, stepping back around the defenders, to hit it mid-air with the laces of his left boot and send it soaring into the back of the net.
The honor is the second for a member of RSL this season, the first coming as a result of Rubio Rubin’s bicycle kick in week 4 against San Jose Earthquakes.
Real Salt Lake returns to action Saturday, October 2 when they travel to Q2 Stadium to take on Austin FC at 1:30 p.m. MT. The match can be viewed live locally on KMYU and on the KSL TV app and ESPN700 radio.
