SANDY, Utah - Major League Soccer unveiled on Wednesday the 2013 Reserve League schedule for all 19 teams, including 26 interleague matches between MLS Reserve League sides and USL Pro clubs.
Real Salt Lake already has its first reserve league victory of the season, getting a first half goal from FW Devon Sandoval to beat the San Jose Earthquakes 1-0 in the Bay Area on Monday. As part of Major League Soccer’s multi-year, groundbreaking partnership with USL Pro, Real Salt Lake will participate in a home-and-home series with first-year minor-league club Phoenix FC. The Claret-and-Cobalt's April 22 home date (7:00 p.m. MT kickoff) with the Arizona club will be a ticketed event at Rio Tinto Stadium with the return date at Arizona State University's Sun Devil Soccer Stadium in Tempe, Ariz. on June 15. Details and pricing for the April 22 reserve league game in Sandy will be released in the near future. Each of the remaining seven RSL reserve home games will be held at America First Field in Sandy.
The MLS relationship with USL Pro is designed to enhance the development of professional soccer players in North America, strengthens the competition in both leagues, and establishes a solid foundation for future collaboration. As a part of the agreement, four MLS clubs chose to enter unique affiliations with USL Pro partners: D.C. United with Richmond Kickers, Sporting Kansas City with Orlando City Soccer Club, New England Revolution with Rochester Rhinos and Philadelphia Union with Harrisburg City Islanders.
