2022 Records: Real Monarchs (3-13-2, 11 points); North Texas SC (10-5-4, 35 points)

Head-to-Head: In the Clubs’ first-ever matchup, Real Monarchs fell to North Texas SC 3-0 behind goals from Bernard Kamungo, Hope Avayevu, and Pablo Torre. The two sides did not face each other prior to joining the newly-formed league MLS NEXT Pro.

PLAY THE KIDS

Real Salt Lake Academy product Terron Williams burst onto the scene in Real Monarchs’ 3-1 win over Whitecaps FC 2, netting his first two professional goals. Shortly after the halftime break, fellow RSL Academy product Axel Kei found Williams on a through ball to set up the first goal, and later the two connected again for Williams to secure the brace. Additionally, Kei’s two assists to Williams were the first two of his professional career.

SCORING SPREE

Midfielder Tyrone Mondi continued his dominance on the offensive end, scoring his fifth goal of the season against WFC2. Mondi has been on scoring spree at home with three of his five league goals coming at home along with netting another two goals at Rio Tinto Stadium during the MLS NEXT Pro Invitational. The midfielder has now scored three goals in the past four matches across all competitions and is second in goals for the Club with five, trailing only midfielder Pedro Fonseca who has six.

BUILDING A FORTRESS AT HOME

Real Monarchs have been on a tear at home recently, winning five consecutive matches at home across all competitions. The Monarchs began the streak by earning its first win of the 2022 campaign, defeating Timbers 2 4-0. The Club then transitioned to host the MLS NEXT Pro Invitational where Real Monarchs put on another dominant performance with a 2-0 defeat over English Premier League 2 side Wolves U-21 and a 2-2 draw and 5-4 win in the shootout over Chelsea U-21. The Club topped that off with two more wins at Zions Bank Stadium when returning to league play, beating Sporting Kansas City II and Whitecaps FC 2.

The Monarchs have earned 14 of 15 possible points at home over the past month, giving the Club its best stretch since joining MLS NEXT Pro. Real Monarchs have seen a number of players step up during the undefeated streak, particularly from midfielder Tyrone Mondi and RSL Homegrown Gavin Beavers. Mondi scored in four of the five matches including a brace against Timbers 2 while Beavers earned three clean sheets during that stretch and buried a penalty kick in the Monarchs’ shootout win over Chelsea U-21s.
