HERRIMAN, Utah (Friday, September 27, 2019) – Real Monarchs SLC (12-10-7, 43 points, 6 West) wraps up its three-game stretch away from home against Reno 1868 FC on Saturday, September 28 in Reno, Nevada. Kickoff from Greater Nevada Field is set for 7:00 p.m. MT and can be seen live on ESPN+.
Real Monarchs enter Saturday’s contest after falling by a 3-1 scoreline at Rio Grande Valley FC last Saturday. The two sides fought for supremacy throughout the first half before the Toros broke the stalemate with a converted penalty kick opportunity. After the break, Real Monarchs came out of the lockers swinging, looking for the equalizing goal but it would be RGV that would go on to score twice more to further its lead. The Monarchs were able to pull one back through FW Damian German who tallied his third goal on the season shortly after subbing onto the pitch.
Real Monarchs are still fighting for the right to host in the USL Championship Playoffs by securing 4th in the Western Conference as it heads into its final five games of the season. The last time Reno 1868 FC and Real Monarchs met was at Zions Bank Stadium in early-April that saw the Monarchs control a 3-1 victory behind goals from MFs Jack Blake and Maikel Chang as well as RSL man FW Joao Plata. As the Monarchs look to secure a playoff berth, Reno 1868 FC has already clinched a playoff berth.

Moving into the second half of the 2019, Real Monarchs SLC has seen 19 unique players tally a goal in a Monarchs jersey. The attacking front is led by Honduran International FW Douglas Martinez, who has recorded 15 goals and 6 assists across 20 appearances as well as earning the club’s first hat-trick in the dominant 5-0 victory over Tacoma Defiance on July 12. Meanwhile, MF Maikel Chang and Team Captain Jack Blake continues to provide a meaningful presence in the midfield providing a combined 19 goals and 4 assists as of September 18.
In front goal, USL Veteran DF Noah Powder has made himself a mainstay on the backline with 25 starts and 26 appearances so far this season. Paired with fellow defenders, Kalen Ryden, Jordan Pena, and Konrad Plewa, the Monarchs backline has begun to solidify and limiting the opposing attack to help in pushing Real Monarchs to its third consecutive playoff appearance in as many years.
In goal, U-20 USMNT star GK David Ochoa leads the Monarchs with three clean sheets and 48 saves in 14 appearances. Ochoa returned to Utah after featuring in two matches of the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup where he tallied one shutout and was named to the 2019 MLS Homegrown Game roster. GK Andrew Putna has also made appearances in goal for the Monarchs this season, tallying three clean sheets and 24 saves in ten appearances for the club.
