HERRIMAN, Utah (Friday, March 31, 2023) – Real Monarchs have announced the signing of goalkeeper Derrek Chan to an MLS NEXT Pro professional contract. Chan will be on the Real Monarchs roster and available for the Team’s match on Sunday, April 2 when they face Tacoma Defiance at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, Washington.
“We are excited to add Derrek to our Real Monarchs 2023 roster and look forward to his continued growth within our organization,” said Assistant General Manager Tony Beltran. “During his time with our Club, Derrek has proven a worthy addition to our lineup of goalkeepers within our developmental teams.”
Chan, 24, officially joins Real Monarchs after spending the preseason training with both Real Salt Lake and Real Monarchs for the past 11 weeks. As a student athlete at University of California, Davis Chan made 16 appearances for the Aggies, 15 of them coming in his final season where he recorded 45 saves and tallied four shutouts. Chan made appearances with numerous USL Championship clubs, having made his professional debut with New York Red Bulls II in April of 2022.
