Real Monarchs has been named the MLS NEXT Pro Team of the Matchday following its dramatic come-from-behind 5-1 victory at Zions Bank Stadium over Portland Timbers 2.
Despite going down in the first half due to an unfortunate foul inside the 18-yard-box, leading to a penalty kick, the Real Monarchs stormed back in dramatic fashion, scoring five unanswered goals in the second half.
RSL Homegrown Diego Luna netted the first goal to turn the tides in the 65th minute, assisted by Ilijah Paul. Nine minutes later, in the 74th minute, Luna and Paul connected again for the eventual game winner, opening the floodgates as Terron Williams scored the third in the 76th minute and Paul netted one of his own in the 80th minute. In the final minute of extratime Tyrone Mondi and Marcus Vasquez paired up for the fifth and final goal of the afternoon, giving the Monarchs the 5-1 win at home.
Real Monarchs are scheduled to remain home at Zions Bank Stadium to host Tacoma Defiance on Friday, May 5 at 8:00 p.m. MT.
