SANDY, Utah (Friday, July 22, 2022) – Real Monarchs are set to host Wolverhampton Wanderers FC U-21, commonly known as Wolves, on Saturday, July 23 at 10:30 a.m. MT in their final game of the MLS NEXT Pro Invitational at Rio Tinto Stadium. While the Monarchs drew 2-2 with Chelsea in Tuesday’s invitational opener, going on to win the penalty shootout 5-4, Wolves defeated the Blues 2-1 in an international friendly on Thursday night.
Saturday’s match, as well as all MLS NEXT Pro Invitational matches, will be streamed live via www.MLSnextPro.com.

INCREASED CONFIDENCE
In the last three matches at home, RSL Homegrown Gavin Beavers has posted two shutouts and made seven saves, while only conceding twice. Beavers also put his stamp on the penalty-shootout victory over Chelsea on Tuesday, coming up with a big save followed by sinking his own penalty kick, giving the Monarchs the lead and helping the Club snag the extra point.
PICKING UP STEAM
Real Monarchs are undefeated in their last three home matches, shutting out Timbers 2 and Sporting Kansas City II by scores of 4-0 and 1-0, respectively, while also drawing 2-2 with Chelsea FC U-21 and winning the penalty shootout 5-4 to earn the extra point. The Monarchs have outscored their opponents 7-2 in these matches with three goals coming from Tyrone Mondi.
WATCH THE COUNTER
On Thursday, Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and Chelsea FC faced off in an international friendly at Zions Bank Stadium where the Wolves emerged victorious by a score of 2-1. While Chelsea controlled much of the game and had a larger share of possession, Wolves took the lead on a penalty kick earned from a counter attack before doubling the lead off a chance created from another counter.
The Monarchs have scored their fair share of goals on the counter attack including RSL Homegrown Axel Kei’s first professional goal on June 12 against Colorado Rapids 2 and a goal from Pedro Fonseca on July 10 against Houston Dynamo 2.
