HERRIMAN, Utah (Thursday, June 29, 2023) - Real Monarchs (5-9-1(1), 17 pts.,12th West) return home to Zions Bank Stadium to take on Austin FC II (9-4-3(1), 31 pts., 2nd West) on Friday, June 30 with kickoff at 8:00 p.m. MT. The Monarchs have a chance for their first back-to-back wins and first home win since April 30. The Club will also celebrate its annual Pride Night.
Real Monarchs took three points from Portland Timbers2 last Sunday at Providence Park in dramatic come-from-behind fashion, 3-2. After conceding twice in the first 12 minutes, a Bertin Jacquesson brace evened the match before Terron Williams scored the go-ahead goal in the 80th minute. Jacquesson’s penalty in the 23rd marked the Frenchman’s first career goal after being drafted no. 16 overall in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft.
Real Monarchs vs Austin FC II Preview:
Austin FC II were established before the beginning of the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season and did not compete in 2022. The first matchup this season between the two teams saw Los Verdes win 3-0 at home. David Rodríguez scored a brace and Valentin Noël added a goal in the 81st to seal the 3-0 win.
After winning 3-2 last week in Portland, the Monarchs have a chance to win back-to-back games for the first time since defeating North Texas SC 1-0 and Timbers2 5-1 on April 21 and 30 respectively. The 5-1 win against Portland on April 30 was also the last time the Monarchs won at home.
