HERRIMAN, Utah (Friday, July 9, 2021) – Real Monarchs (2-7-4, 10 points) fell 3-1 to El Paso Locomotive FC in a hard-fought match at Zions Bank Stadium on Friday night.
Aris Briggs scored his third goal in as many matches, but three goals from El Paso Locomotive FC were enough for the away side to take the victory.
El Paso struck first with a goal from Luis Solignac in the ninth minute of the match. Despite going down early, the Monarchs came back just 10 minutes later when Milan Iloski found Briggs on a breakaway and the forward rounded the keeper to fire the equalizer into an empty net. The defenses held strong throughout the rest of the half and the sides entered the break level.
Locomotive FC took the lead back in the second half with a goal from Diego Luna in the 74th minute. The Monarchs had several chances to climb back into the match to no avail and El Paso ended the night with a goal from Aaron Gomez in the 91st minute, ending the match 3-1 in favor of the visitors.

ELP: Luis Solignac (Eder Borelli), 9th minute: From the left side of the pitch, Locomotive FC defender Eder Borelli sent a looping cross into the center of the box. Forward Luis Solignac gathered the ball in the box and his right-footed shot snuck inside the left post.
SLC: Aris Briggs (Milan Iloski), 19th minute: Forward Milan Iloski split two Locomotive FC defenders with a through ball towards a streaking Aris Briggs. Briggs kept in front of the defense, rounded the goalkeeper and fired a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner of the empty net.
ELP: Diego Luna (Aaron Gomez), 74th minute: Following a block by the Monarchs defense, Diego Luna gathered the loose ball in the box and buried a right-footed shot past the keeper and into the bottom-right corner of the net.
ELP: Aaron Gomez (Luis Solignac), 90+1’: From the right side of the pitch, Luis Solignac sent a crossing ball into the box. After dropping untouched in the box and bouncing back up, Aaron Gomez headed the ball over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

- Defender Bret Halsey made his professional debut for the Real Monarchs as a member of Head Coach Jamison Olave’s starting lineup in the match.
- In his third-ever start, forward Aris Briggs recorded his third goal in three matches with his first-half equalizer.
