Man of the Match: Real Salt Lake Homegrown Chris Garcia was dominant in the attack, putting his name all over the score sheet in the Club’s first win of the season. Garcia opened the match assisting on two of Real Monarchs’ first three goals of the match and then topped it off finding his first MLS NEXT Pro goal in the 63rd minute. The forward also led the Monarchs in shots with five and shots on target with three.
Telling Stat: The Monarchs earned their first three points in MLS NEXT Pro with the 4-0 win over Timbers2. This is the Club’s first win since October 16, 2021 when it beat Austin Bold 4-3 in their final season in the USL Championship. This is also the first match in the newly-formed MLS NEXT Pro league that Real Monarchs have entered the halftime break with a lead and finished the match with a shutout.
What You Missed: Real Monarchs earned its first-ever win in MLS NEXT Pro defeating Timbers 2 4-0. The Monarchs jumped out to a 2-0 first-half lead behind goals from RSL Homegrowns Axel Kei, and midfielder Tyrone Mondi. Mondi netted his second goal of the match in the 58th minute, and Garcia completed the scoring for the Monarchs with a right-footed shot that found its way into the far corner of the net. Additionally, Garcia also earned his first two assists of the season and goalkeeper Gavin Beavers secured his and the Club’s first-ever clean sheet in MLS NEXT Pro.
What’s Next: Real Monarchs will now travel to the Lone Star state to take on Houston Dynamo 2 on Sunday, July 10 at 6:00 p.m. MT, before returning to Zions Bank Stadium to take on Western Conference foe Sporting Kansas City II on Saturday, July 16 at 7:00 p.m. MT.
