HERRIMAN, Utah (Friday, June 4, 2021) – Real Monarchs (0-3-2, 2 points) fell 1-0 to New Mexico United at Zions Bank Stadium on Friday night.
A late free-kick goal from New Mexico United forward Isidro Martinez gave the visiting side the win.
Despite New Mexico United owning the advantage in possession throughout the first-half, the Monarchs found an opportunity to break the deadlock in the 40th minute when midfielder Malik Johnson sent a through ball into the box. Defender Daniel Flores got onto the end of it and fired a shot inside the bottom left corner of the frame, but it was toe-poked out for a corner by the goalkeeper and the sides remained scoreless at the half.
The Monarchs fought hard to find the winner in the second half, but it was New Mexico United that would find the breakthrough late in the 82nd minute to steal the win.
UP NEXT: Real Monarchs welcome Sacramento Republic FC to Zions Bank Stadium on Wednesday, June 9 at 5:00 p.m. MT. The match can be streamed on ESPN+ and locally on the KSL TV app.
