HERRIMAN, Utah (Tuesday, March 23, 2021) – Real Monarchs in conjunction with the USL Championship announced its 2021 home opener set for Friday, May 14 against LA Galaxy II at Zions Bank Stadium. The match will be broadcast live on the KSL TV app.
The Monarchs enter into their seventh season having only played one home opener at Zions Bank Stadium. The team’s first five seasons were opened at Rio Tinto Stadium before making Herriman, Utah its permanent home. Additionally, the Monarchs opened their 2020 season at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy and became the first professional sporting event to host fans since the beginning of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Real Monarchs are 4-4-2 all-time against LA Galaxy II with the last matchup coming on September 7, 2019. The last two times the Monarchs have hosted “Los Dos”they have outscored LA 9-0.
Real Monarchs Head Coach Jamison Olave is entering his second season at the helm with an almost entirely new roster, with the Sam Brown, James Moberg and Jimmy Slayton as the only returners from the 2020 squad.
The 2019 USL Championship Title winners will look to bounce back after a difficult 2020 season that saw the team finish with a 3-11-2 record and fail to qualify for the postseason.
