HERIMMAN, UTAH (Friday, January 8, 2021) – Real Monarchs have signed New Zealand defender Kyle Adams ahead of the 2021 United Soccer League Championship season, pending league approval.
“We are thrilled to welcome Kyle Adams to the Monarchs and Real Salt Lake organizational player pool,” Real Salt Lake Assistant General Manager Tony Beltran said. “Kyle is a well-rounded left-footed center back, who we feel will not only complement the direction of our Monarchs roster but who will also, under the tutelage of our coaching staff, have the potential to make the jump to the first team.”
Adams, 24, has spent the past three seasons in Texas as part of the Houston Dynamo FC organization. Much like Real Salt Lake’s relationship with the Monarchs, the Dynamo have a USL affiliate in Rio Grande Valley FC, where Adams has spent the entirety of his professional career. In his three seasons Adams appeared in a combined 61 matches.
After three years at San Diego State University Adams signed as a free agent with the Toros, where the young defender from New Zealand served as the captain during the 2019 campaign. Adams made 251 clearances and 89 interceptions throughout his three seasons.
Adams earned several promotions to the Dynamo on short-term loans during the 2019 season before signing with Houston prior to the start of 2020. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Adams was loaned back down to Rio Grande Valley where he remained for the entirety of the season.
The defender grew up in Auckland, New Zealand, and has appeared with both the New Zealand U-17 and U-20 sides. Adams joins Max Mata as the second signing from New Zealand.
While Adams is from New Zealand he possesses a Green Card and is a naturalized citizen, therefore, he will not occupy an international spot.
