HERRIMAN, Utah (Friday, February 4, 2022) – Real Monarchs have signed midfielder John “Jack” Imperato on MLS NEXT Pro professional contact ahead of the inaugural MLS NEXT Pro season, pending league approval.
“The Club is delighted to welcome John Thomas Imperato to Salt Lake City and the Real Monarchs. John is an exciting young attacking player with experience at the youth national team level. We look forward to seeing his continued growth within our organization,” Real Salt Lake Assistant General Manager Tony Beltran said.
Imperato, 19, comes to Utah with an impressive resume, having spend his youth as a member of Villarreal CF’s academy in Spain where he competed with the club’s U19 side, while also spending time with CD Roda on loan.
This past year Imperato returned to the Untied States, signing his first professional contract with Orange County SC in the USL Championship during which he made three appearances. Imperato made his professional debut on May 16, 2021 against Tacoma Defiance.
At the international level Imperato has competed for both the U15 and U17 age groups for the United States Men’s National Team appearing in a combined nine matches.
Real Monarchs are set to compete in MLS NEXT Pro for the 2022 season, the schedule for which will be released at a later date. This move comes after seven seasons in the USL Championship, during which the team won the 2019 USL Championship Cup, the 2017 USL Regular Season Shield and the Western Conference Title in both 2017 and 2019, while also qualifying for the postseason in 2018.
