HERRIMAN, Utah (Monday, May 8, 2023) – Real Monarchs have acquired Defenseman Jenthe Mertens on loan from SK Beveren of Belgian First Division A. The 23-year-old Belgium will join the Real Monarchs for the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season, pending completion of the immigration process. Financial terms of the contract have not been disclosed.
Mertens, 23, officially joins Real Monarchs after spending 2 1/2 seasons with SK Beveren. The right-footed defender plays primarily as a right back but has played left back and center back, so his versatility makes Jenthe a welcome addition to the Monarchs defensive unit.
“Jenthe is an established player, joining us from SK Beveren and having played previously in the Jupiler Pro League,” said Technical Director Kurt Schmid. “He’s a solid right back who will reinforce the Monarchs backline and provide extensive professional experience for the squad to benefit from.”
