Real Monarchs 2 Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2
Zions Bank Stadium; Herriman, UT
Forward Pedro Fonseca
On the two Monarchs goals today:
“It was a battle, a heck of a fight, and we fought to the end. Unfortunately, we ended up losing in PKs, but it’s also like a learning process. It’s something that we can work on, but I’m very proud of the team for fighting with a man down for almost the whole second half and being able to score that goal at the end. I’m glad to help the team.”
On this team’s resiliency and battling back:
“These boys are willing to fight, doesn't matter the age. As I said before, they deserve to be here, and they deserve to have this chance. Their mentalities are really good, and they’re willing to put in the work. That red card was a blur, but we just got to continue to work. I believe that the results will continue to come, and we have the potential to fight for three points in the next game. Hopefully the fans will be back to create that same atmosphere to help us.”
On his seniority and leadership:
“Yeah, absolutely, I think it’s something that I have at this moment. Since I’ve been doing this over and over again in college and of course, now we’re talking about the pros. The title changes, but the mental toughness doesn’t. In these moments, you just have to stay focused and forget the things you can’t control. It’s important to focus on the things you’ve been doing during training. So, I picked my spot, waited for the keeper to make a decision, and just hit it to the other side.”
