Real Monarchs 1-1 San Antonio FC
Zions Bank Stadium; Herriman, Utah
Saturday, June 26, 2021
Head Coach Jamison Olave
On the match:
“In the first half the team had a lot of possession and chances, we were really clear in what we wanted to do. I think the team performed really well, we dominated the first half. The second half was a more open game for both teams, both sides created chances to score. We ended up tying the game, but I’m really proud of what the team did today, especially in the first half. In the second half we needed to get more forward and try to win the game because the space was there, but they did a good job.”
On Gavin Beavers:
“Pretty happy with him. He is pretty young, but he is mature. He has been with us all these years playing with the Academy and we trust him. We know the quality that he has and he stepped up today. He showed that it’s not about age, it is about quality and personality.”
Goalkeeper Gavin Beavers
On becoming the youngest goalkeeper in USLC History:
“It’s amazing. That’s what we work for. Me, Mirza [Harambasic] and all of the goalkeepers, Jimmy [Slayton], Jeff [Dewsnup], Andrew Putna, that’s what we’re here to do and it was a blast, it was super cool. It was a great experience, all of the fans were out here tonight, so I had an absolute blast.”
On playing in front of the fans for the first time:
“It was awesome. The Wasatch Legion was right there, they were awesome for the entire first half, so it was superior. It was great.”
Forward Douglas Martínez
On getting his first goal of the season:
“Thank God I was able to score. It had been a while since the last time, so I am happy to get the goal. Unfortunately, it was not enough to get the win.”
On the team’s performance:
“We still have a ways to go. Our performance was not as good as we expected, so we will have to work a lot as a team in order to start accruing more victories.”
