Man of the Match: Defender Jaziel Orozco led the Real Monarchs in shutting out the highest goal-scoring team in MLS NEXT Pro, as the Monarchs defeated Tacoma Defiance 1-0. Not only did Orozco help the Club earn its third clean sheet of the season, but he also assisted on the match’s lone goal when his long ball connected with Tate Schmitt, who settled the pass before launching the ball into the back of the net.
Telling Stat: The Monarchs managed to accomplish something only one other team in MLS NEXT Pro has done this season -- shutout Tacoma Defiance. The Defiance holds the league’s most prolific offense, scoring 56 goals across 22 matches. The only other time the Washington side has been kept out of the net was on the road against Houston Dynamo 2 on June 26 when the Defiance also lost 1-0.
What You Missed: Real Monarchs scored in the seventh minute when RSL Homegrowns Jaziel Orozco and Tate Schmitt combined to give Schmitt his first goal in MLS NEXT Pro in his first appearance, while also giving the Monarchs a 1-0 win over the league-leading Tacoma Defiance.
