Man of the Match: Bode Davis led the Real Monarchs in an impressive comeback after going down 2-0 in the first half with an assist and a goal to level the score in the 55th minute, his goal would prove to be the equalizer on the road. Last year the RSL Homegrown recorded two goals and two assists with the Monarchs.
Telling Stat: In a gritty, tough battle both sides received red cards on either side of halftime. Nathan Fogaca was shown a straight red in the 31st minute giving the Monarchs a one-man advantage until Chris Garcia received his second yellow, resulting in a red card, in the 75th minute. Additionally, six players, three on each side, received yellow cards in their quest to find victory.
What You Missed: Eight players who saw the pitch were only 20 years old, or younger, including 16-year-old RSL Homegrown goalkeeper Jeff Dewsnup. Fellow RSL Homegrowns Bode Davis and Chris Garcia started the match for the Real Monarchs, alongside RSL Academy members Daniel Flores and Jaziel Orozco. Christian Nydegger, also from the RSL Academy came on as a substitute in the 73rd minute.
So What: The last time San Antonio FC failed to win at their home stadium was on August 15, 2020, a 1-1 draw against Austin Bold FC, following which they strung together six-consecutive victories at Toyota Field. Meanwhile, the last time the Monarchs earned a result against San Antonio was April 20, 2019. After a difficult 2020 season a strong road-draw shows signs of a bright future in the Monarchs 2.0 era, of which they will look to continue on Friday, May 14 against LA Galaxy II in their home opener at Zions Bank Stadium.
