Man of the Match: Real Salt Lake Academy product Terron Williams found the breakthrough he’s been looking for, securing his first professional goal as part of a two-goal night for the forward. Williams fired two perfectly-placed shots past Whitecaps FC 2 goalkeeper Max Anchor to earn the brace, one squeezed into the bottom-right corner and the other rocketed into the top shelf. Additionally, fellow RSL Academy product Axel Kei set up both of Williams goals, earning himself his first two professional assists.
Telling Stat: Coming out of the halftime break, Real Monarchs netted two goals within just two minutes of each other, the shortest span between goals this season. Forward Terron Williams began the scoring spree by netting his first professional goal on a ball sent to him by Axel Kei. Meanwhile midfielder Tyrone Mondi broke through shortly after for his fifth goal of the season and third goal in four matches across all competitions. The next shortest time between goals was in the Club’s 4-0 win over Timbers 2 when the Monarchs scored two goals five minutes apart in two separate instances.
What You Missed: Real Monarchs continued its dominance at home, defeating Whitecaps FC 2 3-1 while bringing its home undefeated streak to five matches across all competitions. Forward Terron Williams led the way with a brace, while midfielder Tyrone Mondi netted his fifth goal of the 2022 campaign. 14-year-old RSL Homegrown Axel Kei earned his first two assists of his career and midfielder Christian Nydegger secured his second assist of the season. Additionally, defender Pierre Reedy returned to the starting XI for the first time since suffering a concussion on June 17.
What’s Next: Real Monarchs will now head out on a two-game road trip, first traveling to the Lone Star State to take on North Texas SC on Friday, August 12 at 7:00 p.m. MT before heading North to Minnesota United FC 2 on Sunday, August 21 at 7:00 p.m. MT. The Monarchs will return to Zions Bank Stadium on Friday, August 26 at 7:00 p.m. MT to face Tacoma Defiance for the third time this season.
