Real Monarchs 1 vs. 4 Houston Dynamo 2
July 10, 2022; AVEVA Stadium, Houston, Texas
Real Monarchs (1-12-2, 5 points); Houston Dynamo 2 (9-3-2, 30 points)
Man of the Match: Captain Pedro Fonseca was the bright spot offensively for Real Monarchs, scoring his first goal since April 24, his fifth of the season. The Brazilian led the Club in shots with three and had the only shot on target for the Utah side. Additionally, Fonseca had the highest expected goal percentage for the Monarchs with .40. Fonseca’s five goals and two assists this season are the most combined goal contributions by any Monarchs player this year.
Telling Stat: Real Salt Lake Homegrown Bret Halsey made his first start for Real Monarchs this season, making this the 15th different Starting XI for the Club this season. The Monarchs have yet to start the same lineup more than once this season. With injuries and players moving up and down between RSL, the Monarchs, and the RSL Academy, the MLS NEXT Pro side has struggled to find a consistent lineup during the 2022 campaign.
What You Missed: In its first road trip to the Lone Star State, Real Monarchs fell to Houston Dynamo 2 4-1 on the road, unable to secure the point on the road after being level at the halftime break. Midfielder Pedro Fonseca ended his scoring drought, finding his Club-leading fifth goal of the season while defender Bret Halsey made his first appearance of the 2022 season for the Monarchs.
What’s Next: Real Monarchs will look to continue its two-game unbeaten streak as the club returns home to Zions Bank Stadium to take on Western Conference foe Sporting Kansas City II on Saturday, July 16 at 7:00 p.m MT for Wizards and Princesses Night.
