Man of the March: Captain Pedro Fonseca led the team with three shots while also netting his third goal of the season which pulled the team within one. Fonseca’s three goals lead both the Real Monarchs and MLS NEXT Pro, tied with Tacoma Defiance’s Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez and New England Revolution II’s Damian Rivera.
Telling Stat: RSL Academy products Christian Nydegger and Marcus Vasquez, both recorded their first professional assists on goals from Pedro Fonseca and Bobby Pierre, respectively. Outside of Fonseca’s three goals this season, all of Real Monarchs’ goals and assists have come from past or present RSL Academy players.
What You Missed: Real Monarchs defender Gabriel Oksanen and midfielder Abokye Bikyeombe earned their professional debuts in a 3-2 loss to MNUFC2 at Zions Bank Stadium. Oksanen and Bikyeombe are the seventh and eighth players from the RSL Academy to make their professional debuts this season.
What’s Next: Real Monarchs will have a short break before visiting Pacific Division rivals Timbers 2 on April 24, 2022, with kickoff at 7:00 p.m. MT from Hillsboro Stadium. During the break, several Monarchs players will be traveling to Dallas, Texas to join RSL Academy in the Generation Adidas Cup.
