Real Monarchs 3 vs. Las Vegas Lights FC 2
July 23, 2021; Zions Bank Stadium
Real Monarchs (3-8-4, 13 points); Las Vegas Lights FC (4-9-1, 16 points)
Man of the Match: Coming on as a second-half substitute, forward Jeizon Ramirez immediately made his mark on the match, creating several chances at goal within his first few moments on the pitch. His spark created the opportunities for the equalizer and the eventual game winner. In the final moments of the match his run towards goal earned the team a penalty kick, giving Milan Iloski the opportunity to bury it and steal the 3-2 victory at Zions Bank Stadium.
Telling Stat: Forward Charlie Wehan scored his first-ever professional goal, four years after his older brother Chris Wehan scored his first professional goal, becoming the second set of brothers on the Monarchs to score this season, joining Milan Iloski and Brian Iloski. Both sets of brothers have one sibling playing with Real Monarchs and the other with Orange County SC. The four brothers have combined for 10 goals and seven assists and are the only set of brothers in the league to both score for their respective teams this season.
What You Missed: Along with Wehan, Max Mata also scored his first professional goal, netting the equalizer in the 73rd minute, assisted by Milan Iloski. His goal made him the first player from New Zealand to score for Real Monarchs and just the fifth in all of the USL Championship, joining fellow teammate Kyle Adams who earned his first goal while playing for Rio Grande Valley FC. **
What’s Next: Looking ahead, the Monarchs hit the road to El Paso, Texas next week to take on Locomotive FC at Southwest University Park on Saturday, July 31 at 7:30 p.m. MT. The two sides recently faced one another on July 9 at Zions Bank Stadium with the visiting side taking home the 3-1 win, during which Aris Briggs scored the lone goal for Real Monarchs.
