Man of the Match: Defender Golden Mafwenta started off his tenure at Real Monarchs with an impressive performance in his first-ever match on the Wasatch Front. Mafwenta was key to both the Monarchs offense and defense, taking charge of the team's set pieces for the game and having one of the team’s best chances at goal. Additionally, Mafwenta had two tackles and won seven duels in his debut.
Telling Stat: Despite allowing two goals, the Monarchs had a strong defensive showing. The Monarchs led the way with tackles and duels won, besting St. Louis City 52-42 on duels won and 16-13 on tackles. Additionally, the Monarchs blocked four shots from St. Louis and goalkeeper Tomas Gomez had five saves on the night.
