Man of the Match: In his return to the lineup, Kyle Adams anchored the backline on its way to a clean sheet and a point at home. Seemingly everywhere for the Monarchs defense, Adams recorded a game-high 12 clearances, two interceptions and a tackle. In addition to winning three duels, the defender from New Zealand distributed the ball out of the back at a solid 82.5% clip on the night.

Telling Stat: In the 45th minute of the match, New York Red Bulls II were awarded a penalty for a handball in the box against the Monarchs defense. Mandela Egbo stepped up to take the penalty, but his shot was saved by Jimmy Slayton. It was the second match in a row that the Monarchs have saved a penalty kick, each time by a different goalkeeper. Jeff Dewsnup recorded his penalty save in the 55th minute of the club’s previous match against New Mexico United.

What You Missed: Real Monarchs hosted its first Eastern Conference opponent in Club history tonight with New York Red Bulls II in town. Team captain Sam Brown and forward Aris Briggs both returned from injury spells in the match, making appearances on the bench for Head Coach Jamison Olave. Meanwhile, missing the match due to injury were defender James Moberg, goalkeeper Gavin Beavers and midfielder Brayan Gomez. Gomez was last available on July 18 against Austin Bold FC, making tonight his eleventh-consecutive match missed to injury. 

What’s Next: Now heading back out on the road, the Real Monarchs travel to El Paso, Texas to take on the Mountain Division-leading Locomotive FC at Southwest University Park for a midweek matchup on Wednesday, September 29 at 7:00 p.m. MT. Coming off of three days rest, the Monarchs will look to play the role of spoiler against the El Paso side.
