HERRIMAN, Utah (Thursday, September 15, 2022) – Real Monarchs defender Aziz Kayondo has been named to the Uganda National Team for a tri-nation tournament against Libya and Tanzania. As a result, Kayondo will miss the final Real Monarchs game of the season against Colorado Rapids 2 on Sunday, September 18 at 5:00 p.m. MT.
The tri-nation tournament is set to serve as preparations for the U-23 Uganda National Tam that will take on Guinea in the U-23 AFCON Qualifiers, which are a precursor to the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Kayondo, 19, has appeared in 12 matches for his home country, including three in FIFA World Cup qualification. The defender made his national team debut on January 18, 2021 against Morocco at 18 years 3 months and 12 days old.
In his first year with Real Monarchs, Kayondo has recorded on goal and one assist in 15 matches. He finishes the season having led the league in tackles, while also leading the Monarchs in duels.
The Monarchs are set to wrap up their inaugural season in MLS NEXT Pro this Sunday, September 18 against Colorado Rapids 2. The team is looking to finish the season with on a high note, extending its five game win streak at home and its current four-game unbeaten run.
