SANDY, Utah (Monday, March 21, 2016) – Real Monarchs SLC today announced the signings of three international players to round out the 2016 opening-day roster, adding Jamaican FW Kevaughn Frater, Honduran DF/MF Elder Torres and Argentinean DF Jonathan Caparelli.
Frater hails from Jamaica and is on loan for the 2016 season from Harbour View F.C. of the Red Stripe Premier League. He comes to the Monarchs on a six-game goal streak and has featured with numerous Jamaica Youth National Teams, as well as inclusion with the senior “Reggae Boyz” squad.
“Frater’s a young, exciting player who is strong, fast, has tons of individual skill. I think it’s now just us teaching him, helping him to apply that on a consistent basis in matches,” Real Monarchs Head Coach Freddy Juarez said. “He’s a player I think that will be getting better as the season goes on if he has the right mentality. He does have a long-range shot and he can hit the ball, it’s just a matter of technically and consistently whether he can put it on frame to give himself a chance to score a goal.”
Torres joins the Monarchs on loan for the 2016 USL season from Honduran side Club Deportivo Social Vida. Torres featured for the Honduras Olympic Qualifying team that played in Rio Tinto Stadium last season and helped his side secure a berth in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, after featuring as a prominent member of the Honduras U-20 squad.
“He’s a technical player, like most Central Americans, who can also play as a center mid and as a 6 or an 8 position. He’s technical, he’s intelligent, he fits into our style,” Juarez continued. “He has all the tools for us to hopefully cultivate, and he can contribute to the team with some of his international experience.”
Caparelli spent the 2015 season training with the Monarchs and participating in Monarchs exhibition matches, after spending time in various academies in Mexico, as well as with the Chivas USA Academy.
“Jony we see as one of the most technical players for sure on the Monarchs and maybe along the whole club. He’s been around soccer his whole life. I think if we can help him develop in the mental aspect of the game, the sky’s the limit for him,” Juarez said about Caparelli. “He’s been in and out of other countries , tasting the different cultures and soccer brands and being on his own for a little bit. We want to bring him along the right way. “
The Monarchs open their second season at Rio Tinto Stadium against St. Louis FC on Saturday, the club ending its inaugural season with a flourish, as a five-game winning streak to finished the campaign 7-13-8.
Real Salt Lake players Yura Movsisyan, Sunny and Joao Plata will sign autographs for fans in the America First Credit Union Pavilion from 5:45 pm to 6:45 pm. Jordan Allen, Justen Glad and Jeff Attinella will sign autographs in the Budweiser Club after the conclusion of the match.
The general public sale for 2016 Monarchs season tickets is ongoing. In addition, Real Salt Lake season ticket members can join the Crown Club (www.RSL.com/Tickets/Crown-Club) by adding Real Monarchs season tickets for as low as $66, including exclusive Crown Club benefits.
