SANDY, Utah (Thursday, February 18, 2016) – Real Salt Lake announced on Thursday that the club has traded DF Abdoulie Mansally to the Houston Dynamo in exchange for a conditional third round pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.
“We would like to thank Abdoulie for everything he has done on and off the field during his time with Real Salt Lake and wish him nothing but the best through the next stages of his career,” Real Salt Lake General Manager Craig Waibel said.
Mansally, 27, joined RSL midway through the 2012 season after a trade with the New England Revolution and played in 57 matches across all competitions in his four seasons with the Claret-and-Cobalt. He totaled 49 appearances in MLS play with one goal and three assists. In 2015, he logged 1,310 minutes while making 14 starts, which were both high-water marks during his RSL tenure and the most he had seen since starting 19 matches and playing 1,699 minutes with New England in 2009.
In addition to his play on the field, Mansally was very active in the community, both in Salt Lake and his native Gambia. Through his work locally and through The Mansally Foundation, he was honored as the Jordan Guernsey Humanitarian of the Year in 2014 and 2015. Awarded to RSL’s top humanitarian each year, Mansally was just the second player in club history to be given the honor in consecutive years.
